Reviving the Dress!

Posted by: Pure Captures | Comments Comments Off

This photo shoot is proof that you don’t have to “trash” a dress to get some wild pictures.  Of course, you wouldn’t want to troop across a cow field on your wedding day, but the day or week after?  Bring it!  All Tiff had to do was shake out some grass afterwards, and she can still preserve it if she wants.  She shared a great article with me today on wedding dress  preservation with a few DIY tips at the end.  (Check out the other photos I posted of Tiff’s session – I just got excited looking at these today and wanted to put up more!)

A lot of people hear the words “Trash the Dress” and they freak out when thinking about their wedding dress being subjected to extreme things like water, weather, or dirt.  Well, Tiffany was not afraid to model for us and have fun again in her wedding dress!  She got married a few years ago and found out it was going to cost $400 to preserve the dress….and thinking any future daughter may not want to wear or fit into her mom’s dress, so why not have fun with it instead?  Besides, how often do you get to wear that thing anyway?!  So we Revived the Dress and did a photo shoot in some places she wouldn’t have normally gone on or before her wedding day for a shoot!

You can’t tell from the pictures (unless you zoom in really close on the high-res files!) but she has goosebumps because it was COLD that evening!  She was amazing and didn’t complain….she did better than me, lol.  We raced to the car a few times to warm up in between locations, and finished with hot cocoa and standing in front of a space heater at our house.  We had beautiful light, although it was fading super fast at the end.  But the shots turned out great, and I am happy we got a bride interested in having some fun again with her wedding dress.  And it wasn’t even “trashed” – just a little grass and maybe some dirt.  We did step over cowpies to get some of these shots, though!  :-)

(By the way, Tiffany is a Chiropractor at Springfield Sport and Spine.   She fixed me up the day before Thanksgiving when I was having some weird back spasms, and she helped Matt with a few other things a few months ago, which are also doing much better with some of the therapies in her office and the exercises she showed him how to do at home.)

Dave & Maggie’s wedding

Posted by: Pure Captures | Comments (0)

We headed up to KC the other weekend to go to Dave & Maggie’s wedding.  Matt & Dave knew each other in college – Dave was their honorary suitemate.  We have only met Maggie a few times but she is totally cute and bubbly and it is such a joy to be around her.  I think David is a lucky, lucky guy!  Their wedding was just gorgeous and classy everywhere.  And it was soooo nice to be relaxing and enjoying a friend’s wedding this time instead of running around like crazy photographing it – especially this month!  We did still take a few pictures, of course.  I can’t remember the photographer’s name but he took some fantastic engagement shots of the two (it would be hard not to!) & I look forward to seeing their wedding pictures as well!

This was Dave’s host mom when he went to Japan a few years ago…..Definitely all teary-eyed after the wedding.  It was so sweet!

Check out this cake topper!  Dave’s sister-in-law, Ruby, made this!  I think Maggie said it was ceramic.  It’s very them!

Sorry you couldn’t make it up from Mexico, Jake.  We ate food for you.  It was sooooo good – chicken marsala!

Yesterday on the Fourth, we shot Kim & James’ wedding.  I’ve been looking forward to their wedding since Kim first contacted me about it.  We had known them a little bit through Chi Alpha & some other friends in college, but it was great to get to know them more during their engagement session & wedding.  They are so laid-back and friendly, and just naturally smile because they are always so happy!  It’s hard NOT to get good pictures of people like that!

Kim & James’ ceremony was amazing and completely focused on God as the basis for their relationship.  They had several worship songs and everyone’s voices filled the chapel in such a beautiful way!  I loved to see Kim & James and their wedding party lifting their hands in praise together.  (And, though not as important as what was happening, this chandelier made for some Awesome.)

We skeedaddled down the road a bit to this location for some cool almost-sunset pictures.  The sky and grass were so pretty!  We decided chiggers on their honeymoon was a bad idea, so Kim & James didn’t go too far into the grass, but we got some awesome outdoor shots there with some sweet sun-and-sky action.

Thanks again to Kim & James and their great families for being so great to work with!  Seriously….we get the awesomest clients!

Becky & Kevin’s wedding

Posted by: Pure Captures | Comments (0)

What a fun day! Becky & Kevin had one of the most fun wedding parties we’ve ever worked with. They were willing to do some super fun stuff, and were really contributing to the idea pool. I loved the light in some of the rooms in the church…case in point:

Yeah. Wow. Props to Matt for discovering this little theater! And Becky was so good at more of the posed type of pictures; I really hardly gave her any suggestions. Great model! ;-)

David & Raelien

Great, quick wedding! Family pics took just 15 minutes….always fabulous. If you’ve got a wedding coming up, ask me how they did it. :-)

I just have time for one picture from their wedding before going to church. Matt took this one, and it is one of my favorites from the day!! I know some might think, “It’s just a picture of them dancing,” but it was the story behind it that is special. We offered up the idea of an escape at the end of the reception to take a few pictures in the rain (which is REALLY cool that Raelien wanted to do that – all her idea!!). So they “headed off to their honeymoon” and we followed them down the road for a quick 5-minute private session at Shadowrock park. Too bad the rain stopped when we got down there, but maybe they might be up for a fun little post-wedding session sometime later!

This picture – and the couple – reminds me of why I love my job. It was the sweet moments and conversations they shared together when nobody else was around that made me smile all day.

I absolutely loved shooting this wedding!  Angie and Al both have fantastic expressions, and everything was so beautiful.  Here’s a few more to tide you guys over until the proofs are up!
